Vitamin D

  • a fat-soluble nutrient; requires the presence of fat in order to be absorbed and utilized
  • only found in an animals' products if the animals lives/lived in the sunlight.
  • has close interaction with Vitamin A and acts as a vitamin and a hormone; is a very complex nutrient
  • ensures the absorption of calcium and the mineralization of bone.
  • crucial for immune health, mood, behavior, muscle strength, and cancer protection (especially colon, breast, ovarian and prostate)
  • important for lung development, hearing and protection against autoimmune disorders
